This has to be the most special shoot I have done so far. Frankie and Tom are good friends of mine and they have two boys William and Benjamin. Their youngest, Benjamin, was born a couple of years ago. However, on his first day in this big, wide world he stopped breathing at home and had to be rushed back into hospital. The doctors discovered that he suffers from Trachea-Oesophageal Fistula (TOF). In short, during pregnancy his wind pipe and food pipe did not develop properly. His food pipe wasn’t connected and his wind pipe went into his food pipe.
This was of course devastating news for Frankie and Tom. Benjamin then went onto spend a year in hospital under the care of the brilliant doctors and nurses at St George’s and Great Ormond Street. Imagine not being able to bring your baby home for a whole year, whilst also having William at home. They spent everyday in hospital and their life was effectively put on hold. He has had numerous surgeries on his tiny body and some setbacks but Benjamin is made of strong stuff, he came home last Summer and is absolutely thriving. He will obviously still need lots of care whilst he grows up but everyone is so pleased to see him doing so well. Before he left hospital, he had a tracheostomy for his breathing and a feeding tube inserted directly into his stomach.
The shoot took place at their gorgeous home in the Autumn last year a few months after he left hospital. It was so lovely to see him playing at home with his brother and family and I felt privileged to be able to capture this special time for them. Benjamin is now thriving and spends a lot of time not connected to his portable air that has to travel everywhere with him.
I truly believe being at home with his loving family has made all the difference and love really does conquer all.

I would also like to take this opportunity to include two links below to allow you to give charitable donations to the two hospitals that Benjamin has spent time in and ultimately saved his life. We need to keep raising money to help support the work that they continue to do and help save some more lives.
